English It has been argued that the data of color constancy research cannot be used in color ontology for the interpretation of such data requires previous endorsement of particular color ontologies. A methodologically vicious circle ensues and renders the hope of learning about color ontology through color sci-ence vain. On the contrary, the present work argues that color constancy theories and their overarching frameworks have univocal observable consequences which can be assessed through experimental re-search. A concrete example, based on the framework of reverse optics, is presented and discussed, adding weight to the proposal. It is thus possible to study color constancy without first assessing ontological claims about color. On the contrary, the thesis concludes that there is a strong evidential link between color constancy theories on the one hand and color ontology on the other. It is shown that color constancy theories have ontological import. A consequence of this fact is that determining the correct color constancy theory will have consequences both at the level of the kinds of color ontologies which are receivable and at the level of the arguments which are acceptable to resolve the remaining ontological issues.
