Federalism and Democratic Backsliding: Current Perspectives, Conference Proceedings
BFD
English
The second panel of the IFF's 2024 Summer University Conference explored the Relationship between federalism and democratic backsliding from theoretical perspectives and with concrete examples. The panel examined how democratic backsliding impacts the practice of federalism and dealt with questions of prioritisation of processes of democratisation or federalisation. Case studies include Myanmar, India, and Ethiopia. While some of the papers generally point to the negative effects of democratic backsliding on the practice of federalism, others take a more nuanced view of the relationship between federalism and democratic backsliding.
