Chapter 5 sheds new light on Islamic social engagement in Switzerland by describing new forms of social Islamic agency via quantitative data. Baptiste Brodard displays how Swiss Islamic organisations structure new social activities outside of the traditional framework of community empowerment. The author uses a comparative methodology to critically demonstrate how theological affiliations, nationalist belongings, and sociodemographic characteristics can influence the need for Islamic organisations that provide social services to be supported by institutions and other non-Muslim actors.
