English Spanish This article presents a series of linguistic phenomena of eve- ryday speech in the municipality of Medio San Juan, Chocó, Colombia. These features, which have been repeatedly observed by linguists in the speech of the different Afro-descendant communities in America have been hierarchized. Together with the starting hypothesis —the existence of an Afro-Hispanic speech or a Colombian variety ascribed to Afro-descendants—, objectives have been set out in order to confirm its existence, or to discard it. The main research questions are indi- cated. Subsequently, a methodological review applicable to works of linguistic sociology is given. Finally, three basic questions are addressed in general terms in the study of Afro-Hispanic variables: 1) the original African matrix, referring to inquiries about the origin or place in Africa from which the Afro-descendant population of Chocó originates; 2) the linguistic sign, taking into account that the break- down of the hereditary transmission of the language generates a "con- flict" or linguistic evolution, and 3) the pronunciation of the glottal stop in the Colombian Pacific lowlands. A number of lexical examples of everyday speech from Chocó have been selected. Far from postu- lating conclusions or theses, this paper intends to be an introduction to the subject matter presented. Este artículo expone algunos fenómenos lingüísticos del habla cotidiana del municipio de Medio San Juan, Chocó, Colombia. Se han jerarquizado fenómenos lingüísticos que algunos lingüistas observaron de modo repetitivo en el habla de las diferentes comunidades afrodescendientes en América. Junto con la hipótesis de partida ―la existencia de un habla afrohispánica o una variedad colombiana adscrita a los afrodescendientes―, se han expuesto objetivos tendientes a confirmarla o descartarla. Se indican las principales preguntas de investigación. Posteriormente, se ofrece una reseña metodológica aplicable a trabajos de sociología lingüística. Finalmente, se abordan, de modo general, tres cuestiones básicas en los estudios de las variables afrohispánicas: 1) la matriz africana originaria, referente a indagaciones sobre el origen o lugar de África del cual proviene la población afrodescendiente del Chocó; 2) el signo lingüístico, teniendo en cuenta que el rompimiento de la transmisión hereditaria de la lengua genera un “conflicto” o evolución lingüística, y 3) la pronunciación de la oclusiva glotal en las tierras bajas del Pacífico colombiano. Se ha seleccionado una serie de ejemplos léxicos del habla cotidiana del Chocó. Este trabajo pretende dar un tratamiento introductorio a la temática expuesta, lejos de postular conclusiones o tesis propiamente dichas.
