Noms généraux et noms sous-spécifiés : des relations à préciser

English French The aim of this article is to examine the notion of semantic underspecification through the different interpretations it has been given in existing works. In the nominal domain, two properties are associated with underspecification: semantic generality on the one hand, and the ability to encapsulate propositional contents on the other. These properties distinguish two nominal classes, the definition of which is analyzed. The class of general nouns is characterized by unclear delimitation and heterogeneity: at least three subtypes can be distinguished. The class of propositional encapsulation nouns (i.e. ‘shell nouns’) can be defined and partitioned according to the distribution with different types of clauses in different syntactic configurations. The functional properties of both classes and their intersection are finally examined. Le but de cet article est d’examiner la notion de sous-spécification sémantique à travers les différentes interprétations qui en sont données dans les travaux existants. Dans le domaine nominal, deux types de propriétés sont associées à cette notion : la généralité sémantique d’une part, et la capacité à encapsuler un contenu propositionnel d’autre part. Ces propriétés fondent deux classes nominales distinctes, dont la définition est analysée. La classe des noms généraux se caractérise par une délimitation particulièrement floue et par son hétérogénéité : trois sous-types au moins peuvent être distingués. La classe des noms à encapsulation propositionnelle peut être définie et partitionnée selon la capacité de construction avec différents types de complétives dans différentes configurations syntaxiques. Les caractéristiques fonctionnelles communes aux deux classes et leur intersection sont finalement examinées.
