This contribution reviews Bénédicte Bouillot’s philosophical PhD on the core of the soul in Edith Stein’s phenomenological, ontological, and mystical writings, in connection with the closely linked questions on the human person’s individuality and freedom. The present article offers a critical appraisal and a personal engagement with Bouillot’s study.
