The photochemistry of <i>p</i>-azidoaniline was studied in argon matrices in the absence and presence of oxygen. With the help of quantum chemical calculations we were able to characterize the triplet <i>p</i>-aminophenylnitrene as well as the <i>cis- </i> and <i>trans</i>-<i>p</i>-aminophenylnitroso oxides.
