French Sensory-motor training during rehabilitation of the lower limb is an essential element to regain full physical capacity and to decrease the risk of injury recurrence. There are only a few ways to evaluate sensory-motor abilities without specific equipment. Therefore, two Swiss physiotherapists created the T-training mat with
markings that allow to perform several sensory-motor tests and exercises. Based on a protocol of sensory-motor training on the T-training mat, the primary objective of this research is the realization of a pilot study to evaluate the feasibility of the study at a large scale. The secondary objective is to evaluate the effects of sensorymotor
training on the T-training mat. Method: Randomized, controlled, and monocentric pilot study including 12 participants divided into two intervention groups and one control group. The evaluation of the feasibility is dependent on the consideration of five criteria: the recruitment time, the participation rate, the duration of the intervention, as well as the understanding of the training program. Results: During the pilot study the five criteria of feasibility listed could be validated. Within the scope of the second objective a trend towards improved sensorimotor skills thanks to the use of the T-training mat was detected in both intervention groups. The relevance of visual feedback to perform the exercises was considered as high by the study participants. Discussion/Conclusion: Based on the results of this research, the study can be carried out at a large scale pursuant the protocol, but under certain conditions: A collaboration
with health institutions that have a T-training mat has to be ensured/is necessary and the timeframe for a valid assessment must be increased.
