English We live in a world of constant change, where technology and digitalization play a key role. The aim of this Bachelor thesis is to understand the point of view of bank employees in the French-speaking part of Switzerland regarding the increasing use of digital tools within the banking industry and also to understand how employees are trained to use those tools. This work will also look at the skills required now by employers because they are not the same as in the past. Indeed, the future of work is changing completely around the world, so measures have to be taken to allow employees to be fully operative in a more and more digitalized workplace. In the first part, the research will focus on the major changes faced by people as individuals and as professionals. Then, it will focus on the development of the banking industry because it has evolved over the years. Indeed, in the beginning of its creation, the bank served mainly as a place of exchange and a place to keep safe its values. Now the banking industry offers many alternatives to its customers, ranging from online banking services to personal advice with an advisor. However, the number of physical branches is decreasing due to the growth of digital banking and the fact that customers can do more and more transactions on their own online. The consequences of these changes at several levels of the bank will be explained in detail. In the second part, the future of work will be analysed in detail as well as the skills required nowadays. The terms “upskilling” and “reskilling” will also be discussed in a comprehensive way in order to understand what is at stake. The current situation in terms of reskilling programs within the banking industry will also be analysed to know where the industry is going. A survey was carried out to find out the views of banks employees in French-speaking Switzerland on technology in the workplace and their future as employees. The results differ according to age category, but a large majority of respondents are not worried about the increasing use of technology in the bank. The other element revealed by the survey is the fact that most bank employees have never heard of reskilling and upskilling. It is therefore essential that Swiss banks actively promote reskilling and create programs so that their employees can obtain the necessary skills to work in a digitalized workplace as soon as possible.
