English French The Vitra Design Museum will present its next temporary exhibition called « Lightopia » from the 28th of September 2013 to the 16th of March 2014. The latter one will unveil around forty light fittings with a particular focus on their history, their daily use and their future, while linking them with architecture, art and culture. For this purpose the institution wishes to exhibit their objects in working order. Therefore, reference was also made to the assessment of the possibility of this museographic choice. Thus, the light fittings concerned by this exhibition were the subject of condition report, giving a particular emphasis on the risks of this kind of exhibition, an information-seeking about their lamp(s) and finally the proposal of suitable alternative lamps adapted to the sensitivity of the materials and the authenticity of the object. This document is based on experience and literature to introduce a code of ethics and a methodology adapted to the issue of the working collections in the field of heritage. Thus, the reader will have the keys to decide on a case by case basis the relevance of this kind of exhibition and the approach to follow to achieve the intervention allowing switching on light fittings or any similar object. Previously, it requires to present globally the object types, for which this work was done, their operating mode and their conservation condition, and to identify any problems and all risk factors associated to this kind of intervention and this kind of exhibition. Le Vitra Design Museum présentera, du 28 septembre 2013 au 16 mars 2014, sa prochaine exposition temporaire nommée « Lightopia ». Celle-ci dévoilera une quarantaine de luminaires avec un regard particulier porté sur leur histoire, leur quotidien et leur futur, tout en les mettant en relation avec l'architecture, l'art et la culture. A ce but l’institution souhaite pouvoir exposer leurs pièces en état de marche. Il a dès lors été question d’évaluer la possibilité de cette volonté muséographique. Ainsi, les luminaires concernés ont fait l’objet d’un constat d’état mettant un accent particulier sur les risques de ce mode de présentation, du récolement d’informations sur leur(s) lampe(s) et finalement de la proposition de lampes de remplacement appropriées en regard de la sensibilité des matériaux et de l’authenticité de l’objet. Le présent document se base sur cette expérience et sur la littérature pour présenter une déontologie et une méthodologie adaptée à la question de la remise en fonction dans le domaine du patrimoine. Ainsi le lecteur possédera des clefs pour décider au cas par cas de la pertinence de ce mode d’exposition et la démarche à suivre pour réaliser l’intervention permettant la mise en marche de luminaires ou de tous biens semblables. Préalablement, cela nécessite de présenter globalement le type d’objet pour lequel ce travail a été effectué, ainsi que leur mode de fonctionnement et leur état de conservation, et d’identifier toutes les problématiques et ainsi tous les facteurs de risques liés à une telle intervention et un tel mode de présentation.
