  <dc:description xmlns:ns0="xml" ns0:lang="en">Focusing on Andreas Ritzos' icon with the monogram IHS in Athens, this article offers  insights about the role played by the monogram on Crete and points out that the  particular solution shown in Ritzos' image is not in keeping with St. Bernardine's "icon" of  the Holy Name of Jesus and indicates an association with the symbolism of the holy host.</dc:description>
